The world of blogging has come a long way since I started back in early 2014. The term blog (short for Weblog) was originally considered to be an online journal which would regularly be updated. Many bloggers, including myself started out having a online platform where we could simply share our “style journal”. But with the growth of Instagram aka social media, the world of blogging has changed tremendously and hence the rise of influencers originated.
I still can’t believe that I’ve been an online creator for the last 5 years. It seems like yesterday that I started my blog on a whim and big dreams. My blog used to be an online style journal but has evolved into so much more these past few years. I’ve covered more than just style—I shared my pregnancy and Jaxson’s birth story with you, our new home, travels and much more. But with the advent of Instagram many blogs have been replaced by social media. To this day I wonder how many are actually reading my blog posts or blogs in general. This being said: How many of you actually like to visit my blog?!
And while I must admit that I love Instagram, my blog will always be my baby though. This is where What Would V Wear was born and with the rise of social media influencers I still hold a place for blogs that create or aggregate compelling, interesting, entertaining content. How about you?!
As always, I look forward to hear from you! Thanks much for stopping by and have a great week!

I’m with you! It’s my first time on your page and totally loving it. I’d love to keep visiting for sure! But I’m also guilty of spending too much time on Instagram and sorta neglecting my blog…. which I plan on stop doing soon. I think blog has always been more genuine than Instagram in terms of what people show in their pictures and talk about in the topic. Bloggers don’t (necessarily) obsess over things like “likes” the way Instagram might. I need to get my blogging resources and tools together again so I can be more active here. Thanks for sharing this!
I definitely prefer blogs over Instagram!

I totally get what you mean about how many blogs have been replaced by social media.
I’m still positive though and stand by blogs being an important platform for content creators.
Love reading your thoughts Vanessa!

I think that a lot of people flock to Instagram first before blogs just because they’re on the app so often that it’s easier to catch up with their favorite creators that way. At the same time, with social media constantly changing, I think the only thing that creators can be more certain of is their blogs. We have complete control over everything pertaining to our site, whereas we don’t necessarily have that voice and control over on Instagram. Changes are always being made that aren’t so transparent, which can make navigating and maintaining that reach with followers a bit challenging. That said, I still love blogs because I feel there’s a more intimate connection on the blog than on social media. I hope you’re having a great start to May so far, beauty!
