Over the weekend my husband and I had a date night in the city…without our kids. It’s been a while since we headed down to the city on a date night. We enjoyed a delicious meal by the Chicago River, went for longs walks and talked about how much the city has changed from when he proposed to me by the river 13 years ago.

You see my husband proposed to me at the Chicago River long before it was such a hip and fun place to dine. There was nothing, N A D A. I remember the day like it was yesterday. It was December 24 and we went down to the city for some last minute Christmas shopping (we were young what can I tell you!) until Jeff thought we should walk by river for a bit. I wasn’t too thrilled because it was freezing (this is Chicago, y’all!) but once we got down there he put his arms around me and told me how much he loved me. He knew how much I loved the water and hence he proposed right by the river. I remember being totally shocked and cold but I forgot all about it, and said YES. The rest is history…
Fast forward 15 years…Here we are married, with two kids who decided to leave our precious city behind to start a new life in the suburbs. I laugh about it sometimes because we live so very far from the city now considering Jeff and I consider ourselves city people. We got engaged in the city, got married here, Kingston was born downtown, etc…, I mean the list goes and on. So coming back here is very special to us. It brings back so many memories.
Do you have a city that is very dear to your heart?! Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear from you. As always, thanks so much for reading and have a great start to your week!
I don’t think I have a city that is dear to me yet. I do love Paris even though I’ve only been there once and I love London because I live here but I’m not attached to it.
Btw you look stunning in this dress 😍

I’m reading this with a big smile on my face! Loved to hear your proposal story and it’s great that you guys can go back to Chicago and reflect…I have a few cities that are dear to me. Lagos and Port Harcourt for my childhood memories, London, Berlin, Athens (we all came together as a family for the first time in years in Athens last Christmas)…PS love everything going on with your striped dress! Xx
Just like you my favorite city is Chicago, how many times I’ve been there and I cannot have enough.. And also I love Munich.
By the way, I love your dress.

I am in the same boat with you. I was a city girl for 25 years before moving back to the burbs. Love this dress and the Langham car is so fun!

What a lovely memory. Time flies huh. But kudos to you guys for going strong 15 years later. I love the stripped suit dress and the pink car! I went to Chicago a couple of years ago. I use work for the publishers of Michigan Avenue Magazine and we to go there for work.

This is such a romantic story and it sounds like you had a wonderful trip. I don’t actually have a city that is special to me, but I’m hoping to someday.
